Welcome to Weller Community Centre Garden
This month RGWN are delighted to welcome the Weller Community Centre Garden into the RGWN, making it the latest of 17 organisations to join the network. The Weller Community Centre Garden was formerly associated with RGWN as one of the gardens set up by Food4families and is now becoming a full member with the regular gardening sessions adding to the many other community activities provided by this vibrant community hub in Lower Caversham.
The flourishing garden is tended by a group of volunteers during weekly sessions led by Katie Andrews, a trained therapeutic horticulture practitioner. The gardening group take an active part in deciding what to grow and how to develop this sheltered garden. New additions for this year have included a willow fence, a community orchard planted with the assistance of Freely Fruity, further fruit trees that will be trained as step-overs, and some additional herbaceous borders. The community centre has a cafe, seating area and an accessible toilet making this a great space to enjoy, whatever the weather.
For more details of the sessions at the Weller Centre Community Garden and how to attend a session, see here. Sessions are free of charge and there is no requirement for pre-booking.
