RGWN welcomes Wild City Collective into the network

RGWN is delighted to welcome Wild City Collective to join their network of organisations promoting nature connection across all ages in the Greater Reading Area. Set up by Kathryn Clark in 2020, Wild City Collective seeks to give children a love of nature from a young age that will stay with them through the rest of their lives. Kathryn and her colleagues passionately believe that helping people connect with nature in urban wild green spaces fosters growth, curiosity and a sense of community that are often squeezed out by urban living.

Wild City Collective initially ran forest school groups for children from their award-winning outdoor space in Tilehurst. They are now moving to a new site, 59 Gloucester Road, in West Reading, a site that includes a beautiful school hall and surrounding land that will be run as a forest school. They are also starting to develop a community garden. Indeed, Wild City Collective invites anyone to come and join in this work in their fortnightly Tea and Trowel sessions, 9.30–11.30 am on Thursdays during term time.

At the heart of their visions is teaching children about nature in forest school sessions. A forest school playgroup for the under 5s runs weekly on Tuesday mornings 10-11.30 am during term time, while a Monday session, 10–11.30 am, is for families home educating,. And for the school holidays, Wild Camp and Pioneers give children a wide mix of activities from messy play to group games, cooking on the fire, bush craft and art activities. Workshops for adults and seasonal events are also planned, thus involving all ages.
