London Grows Wild: A guide to wildlife-friendly food growing. Published by Sustain

Wildlife-friendly gardening aims to improve biodiversity which in turn benefits food growing through soil fertility, managing insect pests and pollination.

Wildlife-friendly gardening can help improve soil fertility, assist with managing insect pests and increase pollination. This guide, published in September 2016, provides checklists to assess how wildlife-friendly your garden is and how to improve biodiversity. It suggests:

  • Ways to attract wildlife to your garden

  • How to assess biodiversity by checking for specific types of insect in your garden

  • How to assess how good your compost heap is for wild life and how it could be improved

  • Gardening methods that are wildlife friendly, letting you identify what you could do differently to help wildlife
