Twyford Growers

What we do

Twyford Growers is a friendly group for adults that meets at the Hurst Road allotments in Twyford to grow flowers, fruit and vegetables. The group is run by the garden lead under the umbrella of Age UK Berkshire, and it is supported by Twyford Parish Council and Ruscombe Parish Council.

The group uses an allotment plot that has a variety of beds, including two standing-level planters. It also has a shed, and there is a communal plot nearby that provides some shelter. The communal area has a compost toilet and a solar electricity socket that can be used for kettles and for charging phones.

Sessions

The group meets once weekly on Thursdays, 10 am to 12 noon, from March to October. During sessions, the garden lead suggests suitable tasks for that day, and each person chooses what they would like to do. At the end of the session, the group gathers to chat over refreshments.

The sessions are open to adults who live in Twyford and Ruscombe, including those with mild mental health difficulties. The site is on a bus route. However, the site is very uneven and hence the group is not a suitable for people with balance/mobility issues. Sessions are free of charge and there is no requirement for pre-booking
