Nature Nurture
What we do
Nature Nurture aims to bring urban communities and nature together to create places where wildlife and people thrive.
Nature Nurture’s green social prescribing programmes include ‘Walking for Wellbeing’ and conservation sessions, where participants help look after local nature supported by Nature Nurture’s friendly team. Nature Nurture also provides community events in Reading’s parks and woodlands to help raise awareness of how these spaces support health and wellbeing. Their ‘Wild Teaching’ school programmes help schools make the most of their grounds and local green spaces, enrich the curriculum and support mental health and wellbeing. Nature Nurture works with local communities to create programmes that work for them and help embed nature into their everyday lives.
Nature Nurture is proud to work in partnership with other third sector organisations in Reading. The Walking for Wellbeing programme was co-designed with British Islamic Gardens, and they partnered with several members of Reading Green Wellbeing Network for a Waterway Wellbeing Day.
Nature Nurture draws from a variety of approaches, including Forest School, Earth Education and the creative arts. Their staff team are selected not only for their skills, but because they are friendly, supportive and kind.
Sessions
All Nature Nurture’s programmes are free to attend and they rely on grant funding to make this possible. Currently they are running two programmes - Look after The Cowsey and Our Place, Dee Space.
Look after the Cowsey
This programme is suitable for green social prescribing and takes place in a beautiful woodland in Whitley called The Cowsey. This runs from 10 am - 1 pm on the last Friday of each month. These sessions offer a warm, welcoming space for people to connect with nature, enjoy gentle conservation activities, and meet others - all while contributing to the care of a beautiful natural space. The team always stop for a warm drink and biscuits. Participants meet at the South Reading Leisure Centre on Northumberland Avenue which is a short walk from the Emerald 5 bus Stockton Road stop. No experience is needed and everything is at the participant’s own pace. This venue is not suitable for wheelchair access.
