What we do
Food4families (F4F) has a network of community gardens across Reading where local people are encouraged and supported to join in, and to grow fruit and vegetables, with the emphasis on sustainability and having fun.
The regular tutor-led sessions teach the essential skills required to grow your own fruit and vegetables. Sessions have a relaxed atmosphere that nurtures friendships, breaks down language barriers and helps develop a sense of community. These are open to adults of any age and no gardening knowledge is required. All sessions are free.
Sessions
The gardens run 1–2 sessions a week, with some including a session at the weekend. Many gardens have a polytunnel or access to inside space, so sessions can continue whatever the weather, and most run sessions that are suitable for families; all except the NHS Oasis Garden are wheelchair accessible and all can support individuals with mild mental health issues. They are all accessible by public transport. Pre-booking is required for the NHS Oasis Garden and recommended for all the other gardens.
